The design is one of Loyal to Greenville’s South Carolina State Collection,  which will be continuing to expand in the future. The Carolina Wren,  sometimes referred to as the Great Carolina Wren, officially became the South  Carolina state bird in 1948, replacing the Mockingbird. The wren can be found  in many different habitats including fields, woodlands, and swamps.  

Carolina Wrens build their nests in the holes of trees, on fence posts, or in the  eaves of houses and barns. The wren is additionally known for nesting in  unusual places such as shoe, boxes, bags, and even flower pots. Both the male  and female participate in nest-building, but the female tends to add the  finishing touches prior to laying her eggs.
