SC State Butterfly - Eastern Tiger Swallow Tail:  This butterfly was named for the long portion of their hind wings which resemble a swallow's tail feathers, and there are black stripes on each of the forewings that resemble a tiger's stripes. As the state butterfly of South Carolina. The Eastern Tiger Swallow Tail was adopted as the state butterfly in 1994 with the approval of Act 319 of the South Carolina General Assembly.
